Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury

Rami Malek is an Egyptian-American actor who played Freddie Mercury in the recent movie, Bohemian Rhapsody. Despite his several appearances in films and TV series, playing Freddie was definitely his major breakthrough in the movie industry.  His performance while dancing and singing on stage was incredibly in sync with the actual performances found in Queen music videos and live concerts.

According to the Ellen Show, Rami had taken singing and choreography lessons. However, what made it more interesting was the fact that he watched interviews and videos of Freddie Mercury. He realised that Freddie was always more spontaneous in his movements on stage so he worked with a movement coach to truly extend and immerse himself in the lead vocalist role. He also practiced his accent and voice to have a seamless match.

To portray the sensitive side of Freddie, he would often imagine his life as an immigrant and what his upbringing would've been like. In his interviews, he has mentioned playing Freddie Mercury physically was a tough job and that he had to lose weight to complete the look.

Rami's performance deserves high praise and I hope he gets an award for it!
